You Be A Learner Too is for anyone learning something hard: a student meeting a difficult subject for the first time, a first-year adjusting to a new way of studying, or an adult taking up a new skill, a new language or a new field later in life.
It draws on research on growth mindset and lifelong learning, which shows how our beliefs about ability shape the way we learn. It helps you meet a challenge with curiosity, practise deliberately, reflect on how you learn and treat a setback as information for the next attempt.
Inside are two PDFs, both with your name on every page: a printable deck of A4 cards and a matching ebook. The cards follow dimensions of learning, among them Growth Mindset, Curiosity & Wonder, Learning Strategies, Deliberate Practice, Reflection & Meta-Learning, Adaptation & Flexibility and Learning from Failure. Each card has a theme, a short description and an image on the front, and on the back a set of quotes from many voices and wisdom traditions, with room for your own notes. The ebook holds the same wisdom as a flowing book, with a dedication written for you, to read on a tablet or phone or to print and bind.
The page leaves the pace to you, from a week with each card to a month with each dimension. I suggest you begin with Growth Mindset: draw one card before a study session and choose the quote you want to carry into it. When a subject pushes back, turn to the Learning from Failure cards.
