The Character Strengths: Pathways to Virtue deck is for students and teachers who take a strengths-based approach to learning, for families who want to notice and nurture each person's strengths, and for any learner who wants to know which of their strengths come most naturally.
It draws on a well-known classification in positive psychology: twenty-four character strengths, grouped under six virtues, Wisdom & Knowledge, Courage, Humanity, Justice, Temperance and Transcendence. Character strengths are capacities you can deliberately cultivate, not fixed traits. The deck helps you find your signature strengths, the handful that feel most essential to who you are, build on what is right with you, and develop the strengths you have but rarely use.
Each card holds one question on one of the twenty-four. The Wisdom & Knowledge strengths, Creativity, Curiosity, Judgment, Love of Learning and Perspective, are the cognitive strengths for learning and understanding; alongside them sit Perseverance, Kindness, Teamwork, Self-Regulation, Gratitude and Hope, among others. A card might ask which of your strengths you rely on most when facing challenges, or how you might use your signature strengths in new ways this week. Like every FlourishTalk deck it is made for you, with your name on every card, and arrives by email as a print-ready PDF to print on cardstock and an eBook for a phone, tablet or computer.
I suggest you begin with the Wisdom & Knowledge strengths, which sit closest to your studies. Come back to the cards from time to time to notice how your strengths grow.
